It was an honor to be on the panel:
The Role of Technology in the Movement to End Modern Slavery
Panel Members Included:
Bradley Myles – CEO of Polaris
Kay Firth-Butterfield – Chief Officer, Ethics Advisory Panel, Lucid Holdings Inc.
Kristin Boorse – Sr. Product Manager at Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children
Description of Panel Topic:
There are increasingly few areas or issues in society and culture that aren’t impacted by the ubiquitous nature of technology. Human trafficking is no different. From traffickers’ use of the internet and other tools to exploit victims to the demand for cheap goods and the perceived anonymity of sex buyers, technology has in many ways fueled the rise of human trafficking around the world. Yet innovative technologies are also being leveraged to fight and stop human trafficking. From big data and financial networks to supply chain insights and consumer apps, it is clear that technology will shape the future of the movement. This dialogue will explore these ideas with panelists who are the leaders behind some of the leading technology being used to combat trafficking today.
It was an honor to be included in the North Texan, a publication for Alumni and Friends of the University of North Texas. I am very grateful for my time at UNT, for working with both my advisors Michael Gibson and Keith Owens, and for the support I have received from the College of Visual Arts & Design!
Accepted into the Design Research Conference 2016, in Brighton UK, for presentation at the conference and publication in the proceedings. Looking forward to attending this conference and hearing all of the speakers!
Operation Compass became a member of the North Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking (NTCAHT)
Invited to be a keynote speaker to present my research titled, “Riding Shotgun in the Fight Against Human Trafficking.” This conference was wonderfully organized and the speakers were very engaging to listen to!
We are most excited about our Collaboration Agreement with Mosaic Family Services. Mosaic is a safe haven for survivors of human rights abuses, including human trafficking and domestic violence.
All of the incidents reported through the Operation Compass North Texas mobile app will be sent to our North Texas partners Mosaic Family Services and when appropriate, on to the Dallas Police Department. This vital information, the result of empowered citizens being able to report what they’ve seen, enables Mosaic to provide aid it might not otherwise, and helps Dallas Police bring tra ckers to justice.
It was a joy to speak with Bill Bernstein from Mosaic Family Services to Mark Willis on the Road Dog Trucking Show, on SiriusXM radio.
